Serving as the only Rape Crisis Center and Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter in Santa Cruz County.
| ---- | Our mission is to end domestic violence and sexual assault by providing intervention and prevention services in a culturally-sensitive way. Through crisis counseling, safe shelter, legal assistance and advocacy, we help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to become survivors and repair their lives. Women's Crisis Support ~ Defensa de Mujeres also works to prevent domestic and sexual violence before it occurs by conducting workshops for families, neighborhood outreach, and programs for children that break the intergenerational cycle of violence. Farewell to Georgette Dufresne
Women's Crisis Support ~ Defensa de Mujeres suffered the loss of a dear friend and advocate for women when Georgette Dufresne died at her home on January 14, 2010. Georgette served on the Board of Directors of WCS~DdM for over two decades, and was a driving force on the agency's Fund Development Committee, overseeing fund raising activities for the agency's programs. | 
| Georgette worked with rape crisis centers for over 30 years. She volunteered with one of California's first rape crisis centers, and remembered waiting in a hospital emergency room for several hours with a rape survivor when a nurse finally called out loudly, "who is the rape victim? you can come back now." Rape crisis response has come a long way since then, and Georgette was an active part of the movement that brought about those changes and worked to provide solutions to the problem of violence against women. Georgette also served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities. She will be sorely missed by everyone she touched in our community.
